Global Category Director

Main tasks

  • Develops sourcing strategies while securing internal customer influence and buy-in. This work is done in very close collaboration with Knorr-Bremse stakeholders.
  • Communicates category strategy across organization
  • Manages global strategic supplier relationships, leads key negotiations including contracting with global strategic suppliers and directs identification of new suppliers and supply opportunities
  • Develops and drives implementation of sourcing strategies for sub-categories such on a global level and secures alignment with internal customer strategies and priorities
  • Develops a 12-month rolling strategic sourcing plan aligned with relevant BU budget plans
  • Leads source selection, supplier performance management, catalog content management processes and general procurement activities within assigned category
  • Monitors performance metrics to improve the supply base performance and leads selected supplier performance reviews, engaging key internal stakeholders across the regions
  • Continually conducts market analysis and stays informed of trends in industry/ category with a focus on green travel.
  • Benchmark peer companies with respect to the category
  • Frequent and open collaboration with peer Category Directors and exchange of Best-Practice approaches
  • Coordination with Regional Directors of regional-specific initiatives and cross-regional category activities
  • Leadership of global and regional category teams
  • Lead global category staff meetings and ensure go-meetings are taking place to facilitate good communication and sharing of best practices
  • Leads the annual individual goal setting, aligning goals and development plans with category and regional targets
  • Regularly (quarterly/monthly) provides updates to the organization on business performance results for the global category

Requirements

  • Technical or Commercial university degree
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Extensive knowledge of sourcing, strategic sourcing processes, negotiation experience
  • Experience in global category management for Indirect Categories with special focus on travel
  • Knowledge of contract law
  • Strong data mining and analysis skill-set
  • Ability to build consensus across multiple organizations and all levels of the enterprise
  • Self-directed & motivated
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Conceptual and analytical skills combined with a business driven and practical mindset
  • Very good command of English written and spoken; a second language is preferred
